How much does PAT Testing cost?
A common question, but not one that can be answered simply. It’s important to start with the fact that PAT Testing costs will vary greatly depending on a number of factors like where you are in the UK, how many tests you have and what your risk environment is.
Minimum call out fee
For small jobs, most companies will have a minimum call out fee which will include up to a certain amount of tests within this. It is very unlikely a PAT testing company will come out for one or two tests, and charge you only for this test as it simply wouldn’t be feasible for them. Minimum call out fees vary from one company to another, often also depending on the distance you are from one of their engineers and the complexity of your job.
Per Test Pricing
The standard industry costing method for portable electrical appliance inspection and testing is a price per test, rather than hourly rate. We work out a test price based on location of equipment, type of workplace and the estimated number of appliances to be inspected and tested. Generally speaking, the more tests you have the lower your price per test.
You may be able to save money by reducing the frequency of your testing with your current provider. We use a risk based approach to suggest the frequency in which you should conduct inspection and testing, which may turn out considerably cheaper than if you are testing annually.

Since forming in 1992 we have followed the HSE guidelines and suggest retest frequencies based on the type, environment, work, operator experience and condition of the appliance, thereby extending the frequency between tests and reducing costs without compromising on safety.
